I’m delighted to share that my short story “The Edge of the Lake” has just been published in the Summer Fiction edition of The Yale Review!

The English translation was masterfully rendered by Marc Polizzotti.

Set in an earthquake-shaken Bujumbura, a European teacher prophesies Africa’s apocalypse, terrorizing her Rwandan exile students. Among them, Joséphine—convinced that a legendary country, Wakanda, will save her people—embarks on a mystical quest that carries her from the classroom abroad, ultimately sparking scandal, cults, and tragedy.

“One day, Burundi will be at the edge of the sea, and Bujumbura will be swallowed by the ocean.”
