La quatrième de couverture présente ce numéro spécial de la revue:

Co-edited by Susan Bernofsky and Christopher Merill, LANDMARKS gives us work from 20 nations. Lauded Argentine author Juan José Saer, widely considered the heir of Jorge Luis Borges, transforms a photo of Earth from space in tense alcohol-fueled meditation of emptiness. Scholastique Mukasonga’s heatbreaking story ponders how so many of her fellow Rwandans could participate in a bloody genocide. And fantastic poems come to us from Soviet absurdist Daniil Kharms, Israeli Yehuda Amichai, and the up-and-coming Brazilian Ana Martins Marques.

La traductrice Lara Vergnaud commente son travail:

While these short stories are not devoid of poeticism, or even humor, they are notably marked by sobriety and directness that make no attempt to mask the darkness of the underlying context of the Rwanda genocide. Mukasonga’s measured prose posed a particular challenge in translation. Faced with such taut language and fraught subject matter, I chose not to evoke unintended pathos or stray from Mukasonga’s unencumbered style.
