New York Times Books : ‘The Barefoot Woman’ - Scholastique Mukasonga ' Rwanda - genocide memoir literature

Glad to see my upcoming book “The Barefoot Woman” reviewed by Parul Sehgal for the New York Times.

“The Barefoot Woman” will be released on December 11, 2018 on Archipelago Books.

This work of preservation did not end with Stefania. “The Barefoot Woman” powerfully continues the tradition of women’s work it so lovingly recounts. In Mukasonga’s village, the women were in charge of the fire. They stoked it, kept it going all night, every night. In her work — six searing books and counting — she has become the keeper of the flame.

About Me

Scholastique Mukasonga is a Rwandan author living in France. She was born in Gikongoro Province in 1956. Mukasonga left Rwanda before the Rwandan genocide, which killed 27 members of her family, her mother being one of them.
